Over the hiatus I've decided to abandon the Unity game engine in favor of the Godot Engine. The reasons were thus:
- Godot is free and open-source.
- No license headache.
- No asset store.
- Projects can be built for just about any target platform.
- Godot 3.0 will get C# support and some new 3D features.
This project will be discontinued, but when the hiatus is complete (some time after Godot 3.0 is released) a new project will start with its focus being to create a minimalist arena shooter(much like this one) that can be expanded into a larger project with subsequent updates.
